Women’s Foundational Skills Clinic
Are you new to mountain biking, transitioning from paved trails to dirt, or simply looking to solidify the essential skills that make riding fun and safe? Our Foundational Flow clinic is the perfect place to start your journey. Designed by women, for women, this clinic focuses on building a solid and confident base for mountain biking in a supportive, low-pressure, and encouraging environment.
We believe that a strong foundation leads to lasting confidence on the trails. This session strips away the complexity and focuses entirely on the core techniques necessary to navigate singletrack successfully.
What We Will Cover:
Neutral / Ready Position: Establish the core athletic stance needed for balance and control over all terrain. This is the bedrock of all mountain bike skills.
Braking Mastery: Learn how to brake effectively, modulate pressure, and use both brakes simultaneously to slow down quickly and safely without skidding or losing control.
Bike-Body Separation: Learn how to move your body independently of your bike. This key technique allows your bike to track over obstacles while your body remains balanced and centered.
Cornering Basics: Practice looking ahead, leaning the bike, and controlling your speed to navigate gentle turns with comfort and stability.
Time and Dates:
Third Saturday of the month.
RIDER SKILL LEVEL:
Beginner. Riders should be able to comfortably ride on paved surfaces.
Women’s Beyond Basics
This clinic focuses on the skills that turn capable riders into confident, dynamic mountain bikers. We create a supportive, fun, and focused environment where you can safely practice and master techniques necessary for true trail progression.
What We Will Cover:
Advanced Cornering and Berms: Learn to maintain speed through berms and flat turns by mastering body position, vision, and weighting techniques.
Reading the Trail: Improve your strategic line choice to find the fastest, smoothest, and most efficient path over obstacles and through technical sections.
Pumping & Absorbing: Learn to use the terrain to generate speed (pumping) and smoothly manage bumps and dips (absorbing) without losing momentum.
Climbing Efficiency: Focus on body placement and cadence to maintain traction and conquer steep, technical ascents without dabbing.
Who is this Clinic For?
This clinic is for intermediate riders (ages 14+) who are comfortable with basic body position, braking, and shifting, and are ready to tackle singletrack featuring small roots, rocks, and moderate descending. If you feel stuck at the "beginner" level and want to find your flow state, this is the place to be!
Time and Dates:
Third Saturdays of the Month
RIDER SKILL LEVEL:
Beginner Plus to intermediate. A Foundational Skills Class or Women of Oz Fundamentals clinic should be done before Beyond Basics Class.
Women’s Trail Mastery
Ready to finally clean that challenging feature, confidently ride that entire section, or master the strategy needed for a demanding local trail? Our Trail Mastery Clinics are designed for intermediate and advanced women riders who are ready to dedicate a session to break down, practice, and conquer one specific, notorious trail segment.
Unlike general skills sessions, this clinic focuses on applying, refining, and linking high-level skills directly on a specific challenging trail chosen for the session.
How It Works:
The Breakdown: We begin by riding the designated challenge trail/segment together. Our coaches will stop, analyze the technical features, and identify the specific skills required (e.g., dynamic weight shifts, precise braking points, high-speed line choice).
Skill Isolation & Practice: We will session key sections adjacent to the challenge trail to practice the isolated skills needed—like drops, rock gardens, or tight switchbacks—before applying them to the main trail.
The Sessioning: We will then move back to the challenge trail, riding it repeatedly, focusing on one feature at a time, and linking segments until you are riding the full trail with control and confidence. You'll leave knowing exactly how to handle that specific section every time.
Trail Announcement: The specific challenge trails will be announced closer to time.
.
Time and Dates:
Announcements coming soon.
RIDER SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate to advanced. Participants should have a solid foundation in bike-body separation, dynamic braking, and basic cornering, as we will be focusing on advanced application.

More on Mountain Biking
A properly fitting mountain bike (MTB) is essential for comfort, control, and injury prevention. Women-specific considerations include frame geometry, saddle comfort, and handlebar positioning. Here’s how a mountain bike should fit a woman:
1. Frame Size & Geometry
- Choose a frame size based on height and inseam measurements. Many brands offer women-specific frames with shorter top tubes and lower standover heights.
- A lower standover height (space between the top tube and crotch when standing) ensures easy mounting/dismounting.
- Reach and stack (distance from saddle to handlebars) should allow for a comfortable riding posture without excessive stretching.
2. Saddle Fit
- A women-specific wider saddle with proper cushioning supports sit bones better than standard seats.
- The saddle should be level or slightly tilted downward for comfort on climbs.
3. Handlebar Width & Grip
- Women generally have narrower shoulders, so narrower handlebars (680mm–740mm) can provide better control.
- Adjustable or shorter stem length (40mm–60mm) improves comfort and reduces reach strain.
- Ergonomic grips help prevent hand numbness and fatigue.
4. Suspension Setup
- Suspension should be adjusted based on rider weight. Women tend to be lighter than men, so lower air pressure in forks and shocks improves performance.
- Some bikes offer women-specific suspension tuning for better responsiveness.
5. Crank Length & Pedal Position
- Shorter cranks (165mm–170mm) are ideal for riders with shorter legs, improving pedaling efficiency.
- Clipless or flat pedals with proper foot positioning enhance stability and control.
6. Stand-over & Reach
- When standing over the bike, there should be at least 1-2 inches of clearance between the top tube and your body.
- Reach should allow a slight bend in the elbows when gripping the handlebars, preventing overextension.
7. Test Ride for Comfort
- Ensure a natural, relaxed posture with knees slightly bent when pedaling.
- The bike should feel stable when cornering and descending without excessive weight on the hands.
Many brands now offer unisex frames with adjustable components rather than gender-specific bikes, allowing for a more personalized fit. If unsure, a professional bike fitting can help fine-tune adjustments for maximum comfort and performance
